From Player to Coach: Shaelyn Kobrynich’s Return to Abington Heights

Abington Heights graduate Shaelyn Kobrynich has come full circle. A standout athlete during her high school years, Kobrynich went on to excel as a Division 1 college field hockey player at Wagner College, where her leadership on and off the field earned her the title of team captain in her senior year. Now, she has returned to her alma mater in a new role—coaching the field hockey team. 

As a former player who understands the pressures and triumphs of competing at a high level, Kobrynich brings a wealth of experience, skill, and passion to the sidelines. Her journey from Abington Heights to the collegiate field and back has equipped her with not only technical expertise but also the invaluable insights that come with leading a team in competitive environments. 

Coaching at her high school is an opportunity for Kobrynich to give back to the community that played a key role in her growth as both an athlete and individual. I’m confident she feels that it’s incredible to be able to come back and share what she’s learned with the next generation of players.  

Kobrynich’s return marks a significant chapter for the Abington Heights field hockey program. Her story is a testament to the power of returning to one’s roots to inspire others, and her impact on the players and the program is already being felt. The future looks bright for the team under her leadership.
