Welcome to the BDNJ Photo Blog! My name is Buck Duke Norton-Jennings (BDNJ), and I’m excited to bring you in-depth coverage of high school sports in PIAA District 2. This blog is a passion project born from my love for sports, photography, and storytelling.
My high school English teacher, Bruce Steel, opened my eyes to the power of writing and the importance of communication. Over the years, my approach to expressing myself has evolved, but my love for writing has remained constant. I’m naturally a short-and-to-the-point person, but when I take the time to sit, reflect, and write, I surprise myself with how much I have to say.
With my background in athletics and photography, launching a sports blog felt like the perfect way to merge my interests and contribute to the community that has given me so much.
Sports have always been a huge part of my life. Growing up, I played soccer, basketball, and little league. By eighth grade, I was playing on the freshman basketball team and had my first experience with football. As a freshman In high school, I played football, wrestled where I was a co-captain, and was introduced to weightlifting at Brown’s Gym, in Clarks Summit. By my senior year I had become a three-sport letterman in football, baseball and on the wrestling team. My passion for athletics continued into college at Clarks Summit University (formerly Baptist Bible College), where I studied Physical Education and wrestled. Later, I expanded my knowledge by earning a Business Administration degree from McCann School of Business and Technology.
Photography has also been a long-standing passion. I picked up my first camera as a child, but things really took off in the early 2010s when I acquired a digital camera kit and launched BDNJ Photo. I took local photography classes and later completed a professional photography course at the New York Institute of Photography, refining my skills in both photography and the business side of the industry.
The BDNJ Photo Blog will shine a spotlight on the incredible athletes, teams, and stories that make up the high school sports scene in NEPA. My focus will be on PIAA District 2 sports, particularly in the WVC and LIAA conferences, with primary coverage of Abington Heights, Lackawanna Trail, Lakeland, and Scranton Preparatory School. However, as time allows, I’ll expand my reach to other schools and teams.
Here’s what you can expect from the blog:
Week In Review (Mondays): A recap of the previous week’s sporting events, featuring the games I’ve photographed.
Spotlight (Tuesdays): A feature on a standout athlete or individual.
Legacy (Alternating Wednesdays): Interviews with former District 2 athletes. (if you know someone I should include, let me know – Please email me their name and a solid email address that I can contact them through)
Topic of the Week (Alternating Wednesdays): My take on various sports-related topics.
What makes this blog different? Photography. BDNJ Photo has always been about capturing moments in a way that brings out the emotion, intensity, and excitement of sports. This blog combines that visual storytelling with a personal and engaging writing style, bringing a fresh take on sports journalism in our region.
I’ve been fortunate to build strong connections in the local sports community through friendships, networking, and various opportunities. This blog is my way of giving back—highlighting the hard work of athletes, sharing their stories, and providing parents, players, and fans with a space to celebrate NEPA sports.
Thank you for being here, and I hope you enjoy the journey!
